Alert speeders about the conservation minded driver ahead, and help spread the Drive 55 message with 4" x 11" "iDrive 55" removable window cling things. Thanks go to Gina Saitta of Omaha, Nebraska for helping with these great new stickers.
It is true that under-inflated tires waste energy by increasing drag the engine must overcome. In many cases the savings can be well over 3%-5%. Therefore we must make it super easy for consumers to check and add air to their tires every time they fill up with fuel. This can be accomplished by mandating that each fuel pump also have a tire pump built into it or immediately adjacent.
For the statistically inclined, following is June - July data that may be useful.
A July 2008 Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that an
equal number of people support offshore drilling as those that oppose a
national 55 MPH speed limit, 59%.
The report also notes Seniors (50%), Democrats (43%) and women (42%)
would like to see the lower speed limit while young voters (under 30)
reject the idea by a wide margin of 76%
When asked "What is more important, reducing the price of gas and oil
or protecting the environment?" 46% of those surveyed said reducing the
price of gas and oil, 38% said protecting the environment and 15% were
not sure.
